On March 22, Swangz Avenue introduced their newest artist, Zafaran, whose real name is Josephine Nakyoonyi. During the event, Zafaran was seen signing her contract with Swangz lawyers at their office in an industrial area.
Details of the contract have not been disclosed, but it is believed to be a long-term recording deal.
Swangz Avenue is known for discovering and launching the careers of previously unknown artists. Zafaran is thought to have undergone months of training before signing the contract and was spotted performing with other musicians during the highly successful Tusker Malt Conver Sessions.
She recently performed alongside King Saha and Chameleone at a concert organized by Swangz Avenue.
While there isn't much information about Zafaran yet, fans are already drawn to her vibrant sense of style, showcased as a backup vocalist in the Tusker Malt Conver Sessions with color-blocking outfits and well-tailored suits. In the reveal video, a snippet of her song is played as a teaser. Swangz Avenue has not announced a release date for her music or provided a timeline for when fans can expect to experience her artistry fully.
With Zafaran's signing, Swangz Avenue now manages four female artists directly. Last year, Winnie Nwagi renewed her contract with the label, Vinka signed with Sony but remains managed by Swangz, and the successful Azawi is also under their management.
In a recent interview, the label's director, Benon Mugumbya, mentioned that Swangz Avenue plans to retain all its current artists while adding a few more to their roster.
