Pallaso, the Afro Pop artist, is a multifaceted talent hailing from Uganda. Born Pius Mayanja, he is renowned as a singer, songwriter, producer, and videographer. His musical style traverses various genres, including Afro Pop, Afrobeat, Hip Hop, Dancehall, and R&B. Pallaso seamlessly blends Luganda, English, and Swahili in his songs, adding a distinct flavor to his lyrics.
Pallaso's journey in the music industry commenced in 2000 when he was associated with Leone Island, a band spearheaded by his brother, Jose Chameleon. Under the stage name "Lizard," Pallaso released his debut single "Mudigidde" in 2003, produced by his brother Chameleon, gaining significant airplay on Radio Simba and catching the attention of listeners, notably Omulangira Ndauisi and Bobo King.
Born on September 5, 1987, at Mulago Hospital, Pallaso is the son of Mr. Gerald Mayanja and Mrs. Prossy Mayanja, growing up among seven siblings, including the renowned musicians Chameleon, Weasel Manizo, and the late AK 47. Pallaso's educational journey led him to Happy Hours Nursery and Primary School for his early education, followed by Mengo Senior School and Kasawo Secondary School for his O level. He completed his A level education at St. Augustine College, Wakiso, before pursuing further studies in Pennsylvania, where he obtained a diploma from the College of Direct Studies.
In 2005, Pallaso relocated to the United States, where he resided for a decade before returning to Uganda in 2014. During his musical career, he also became associated with TNS, under the management of Jeff Kiwa, before venturing out to establish his own group, Team Good Music. In 2005, Pallaso made a significant move to the United States, where he not only pursued employment but also continued his burgeoning music career. During his time in the U.S., he released several songs and underwent a pivotal transformation, adopting the stage name "Pallaso," transitioning from his previous alias, Lizard. Notably, he collaborated with a rapper from Lewiston, Maine, known as The Mess, resulting in the creation of their collaborative album titled "Change" in 2013.
Upon his return to Uganda in 2014, Pallaso, often referred to as the self-proclaimed king of the East, embarked on several notable musical endeavors. He joined forces with Shaggy and DJ Hidrro to produce the heartfelt song "Remain in Our Hearts," dedicated to fallen heroes like Michael Jackson and Notorious B.I.G. Moreover, his collaboration with Radio and Weasel under the Goodlyf crew yielded the smash hit "Amaaso," which soared to the top of Uganda's music charts, revitalizing his music career.
Pallaso's solo ventures flourished as well, with the release of albums such as "Weekoledewo Kaki" and "Omugongo," showcasing his versatility and artistic depth. Additionally, amidst the dissolution of the Goodlyf crew's partnership with their manager Jeff Kiwa, Pallaso teamed up with fellow artists to form a new group called Team No Sleep (TNS). Collaborations with prominent figures like Sheeba Kalungi resulted in chart-topping hits like "Mundongo" and "Go Down Low," which earned recognition at prestigious award ceremonies such as the Hipipo Music Awards.
Throughout his career, Pallaso's musical repertoire expanded with collaborations with artists like King Saha, resulting in hits such as "Tamale Mirundi" and covers of songs originally performed by "Sweet Kid," including "Kilabe Embaliga" and "Sanyu Lyange." Notably, his collaboration with Nigerian musician Davido on the single "Twatoba" further cemented his status as a versatile and internationally acclaimed artist.
In May 2015, Pallaso parted ways with TNS amid allegations surrounding the tragic death of his younger brother, AK 47, subsequently establishing his own music group, Team Good Music.
Despite his musical successes, Pallaso's journey has not been devoid of controversy. He faced physical attacks in South Africa amid xenophobic tensions, engaging in altercations with individuals like Kato Lubwama and encountering legal issues with law enforcement authorities over COVID-19 SOP violations.
Pallaso, a dedicated family man, is the proud father of two children, Maisha Mayanja and Danari Mayanja, whose mother resides in the United States.
