The Ugandan music group known as the Goodlyfe Crew comprises Moses Radio (born Moses Nakintije Ssekibogo) and Weasel (born Douglas Mayanja) as its primary performers. Initially serving as backing vocalists for Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone, Radio and Weasel opted to establish the Goodlyfe Crew in 2008, parting ways with Chameleone's Leone Island Crew.
Their music swiftly gained traction on Ugandan radio, commencing with hits like "Nakudata" in 2008, followed by tracks such as "Lwaki Onumya," "Zuena," "Nyambura," and "Bread and Butter." Midway through 2008, they embarked on collaborations with artists such as Rachel Kay, Blu*3, OS, Allan Toniks, GNL, and Zambia's General Ozzy. More recently, they've performed live and collaborated with Ugandan artist Keko.
History Moses Radio's musical journey commenced at Holy Cross Lake View Secondary School in Jinja, where he assumed the role of president of the Youth Alive Club. He crafted musical endeavors for the club, garnering success in inter-school Youth Alive Club competitions. In 2002, Radio enrolled at Kiira College Butiki in Jinja, temporarily halting his musical pursuits to focus on academics.
In 2004, he became part of Chameleone's Leone Island Crew. Concurrently serving as Chameleone's backing vocalist, Radio also released solo tracks under Leone Island Records, including "Jennifer," "Dagala," "Wololo," and "Sweet Lady." Although "Sweet Lady" was well-received, Radio's public visibility remained modest.
Weasel, on the other hand, embarked on solo endeavors under his elder brother's label, but it was his collaboration with Chameleone on "Bomboclat" that captured audience attention.
Musical Style Moses Radio delivers smooth R&B vocals, complemented by Weasel's infusion of reggae, ragga, and dancehall vibes.
Other Members Additional members of the Goodlyfe Crew include Chagga, Red Banton Buaman, Allan Kiwanuka, and Jeff Kiwanuka. Each member has pursued solo projects. Gift of Kaddo became a full-fledged member of the crew in 2009 but departed in November 2010 to establish Kaddo Pharm with Mr. X (who passed away in June 2012). Diamond Oscar also exited the Goodlyfe crew. Accusations and Collaborations In December 2013, the duo reconciled with their former boss from Leone Island, marking their first collaboration since their split in 2008.
This led to their joint performance with Chameleone at the Tubonge concert in 2014. Additionally, in 2013, they claimed to have resolved their differences with Gagamel singer Bebe Cool. However, a new dispute arose in Kampala in March 2011 between Radio/Weasel and Kenzo, stemming from Kenzo's song "Mundeke Numbe".
The Goodlyfe Crew asserted that the entire concept of the song and video was borrowed from their own "Talk and Talk". In 2009, the Goodlyfe Crew had a hit featuring Rabadaba, "Opportunity or Ability", which allegedly incited violence against Bebe Cool, particularly on Radio's part.
Early in 2014, Radio and Weasel collaborated with Pallaso and Mess on the track "Amaaso", and in 2011, they teamed up with Da TWINZ for "Dembesa". Another collaboration followed with Diamond Oscar on "You Make Me Cry".
They have also collaborated with other Ugandan artists such as "Tax Money" with Sizza Man and "Pollination" with Obsession in 2011. In 2008, they collaborated with Zambian General Ozzy on "Potential" and "Take My Heart Still". In 2010, they recorded "Maama Wabaana" with Tom Close, and in 2013, they worked with Desire Luzinda and David Lutalo on "Hellena".
Battle of the Champions In December 2013, Radio and Weasel engaged in a musical battle with Bebe Cool at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds. Chameleone commended both acts for their performances, but no clear victor emerged.
Projects The Goodlyfe Crew operates their own production house, Goodlyfe Magic, but they also engage in various other projects, particularly in music production. They have worked with producers such as Washington, Bleas, Swangz Avenue, Bushington, and label Nash Wonder of Monster.
